David E. Woods

David Eugene Woods passed away in his home in Louisiana MO with his wife of 37 years by his side on April 30, 2026. David was born to his parents Bob and Marian Woods at Louisiana hospital on May 28,1951. David lived in Louisiana all his life and attended Louisiana school. He played basketball in his high school years. He had many friends he ran around with in his younger years. Once graduating in 1969 he joined the Army National Guard where he was an MP until he received his honorable discharge December 30, 1975. Coming back to Louisiana is when he met his wife Marilyn Woods when she still lived in Pleasant Hill IL. He was hired on to the Union Pacific Railroad. He and Marilyn dated for 11 years starting 1977. They had a daughter in 1984 and that completed their family. David and Marilyn married at the First Baptist Church on Louisiana MO on December 30, 1988. David continued working for the railroad for 40 years and 6 months. During those years he enjoyed hunting with his brother Kenneth (passed), father Bob (passed), and Gary Branham long time hunting buddy (passed) on the High 40. He and his father bought a John boat together and enjoyed being on the river. David enjoyed taking his wife and daughter on the river when the sun was out. He always enjoyed being on the river. He was an avid baseball and football fan cheering on the STL Cardinals and KC Chiefs. He could be found on game days and Sundays with his wife watching sports. He enjoyed grilling for his family when there wasn't a game to be missed. His daughter and son in law gave him and Marilyn their dog Luna when they could not take her to their new home. David was not happy to have a dog in the house. However, he was secretly observed playing catch and chasing Luna (passed) around the house. He even bought Luna her own back seat covers for the truck. I'm pretty sure he liked her. They are back together now. David finally gained a son when his daughter Whittney married Kris Lee on September 15, 2012. Kris and David never shared many words, but David enjoyed having a son. And Kris loved having a good role model on how to be a great husband. David was a hardworking man that put his family first and himself second. When his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 it shattered his world. But he stood by her side through every surgery and chemo treatment. They would get to enjoy 16 more years together. In 2022 David's heath started to go downhill. He had many heart problems and was diagnosed with COPD. He continued to fight, but his health still declined. David finally lost his health battle with his loving wife never leaving his side. David was proceeded in death by his parents Bob and Marian (Hallows) Woods, brother Kenneth Woods, niece Laura Woods, and other family and friends. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Woods of Louisiana MO, daughter and son in law Whittney Lee and Kris Lee of O'Fallon MO, in laws Donna Woods of Louisiana, Betty Knight of Halliday ND, brother in laws Bill and Sue Johnston Pittsfield IL, and Pete Johnston of Pleasant Hill IL, and other friends and family. Services will be held at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, MO. Visitation will be on Friday May 8, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral will be on Saturday May 9, 2026 at 10:00 am. The Rev. Ruth Shumaker will officiate. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery near Louisiana, MO. David was not a fancy man so saying that please wear your STL Cardinals or KC Chiefs shirts or any sports team shirt. He will be missed by those that knew him and actually got him to talk. And thank you to the Hucksteps, Tylier Turnbaugh, Mike and Julie Richardson, Shumakers, and Melanie Nordquist for all your help with him. It never went unnoticed.
